Education Programs
Conservation Nation Academy
Unique resources and training for educators
Our free lessons challenge stereotypes and feature authentic conservation champions from around the world who come from diverse cultural, racial, and ethnic backgrounds. We are looking for formal and non-formal educators working with upper elementary through high school to help us pilot these lessons by giving us feedback before a national rollout in early 2025.Â
As funding allows, we also offer free training for PreK-12 teachers (both virtual and in person) to share resources and strategies in conservation education.

Teen Leaders in Conservation
Hands-on programs for middle & high school students
Our planet’s amazing web of biodiversity needs some TLC: Teen Leaders in Conservation!Â
We help teens from under-resourced communities in Washington, DC connect with nature and develop career skills such as public speaking, proposal writing, and project management as they build confidence to tackle environmental action projects at school and in their communities.Â
Our work with teens has evolved from a Youth Advisory Council and NxtGen microgrant program in 2021 to the current TLC model that launched in 2023. We are also piloting a virtual TLC program in spring of 2024 that focuses on actions to reduce food waste and exploring how our everyday actions impact wildlife.
Conservation Nation is a proud partner of The Washington School for Girls, The Washington Jesuit Academy, and DC Public Schools.

EXPLORE with Conservation Nation
Resources and grants for field trips
We should never underestimate the power of nature experiences for children. Time spent in nature is associated with positive conservation attitudes and behaviors as well as improved mental wellness. And just about every conservationist we meet speaks fondly of early experiences with nature as an inspiration for their career path.
That’s why we support teachers in facilitating field trips and outdoor nature exploration for students with unique resources. We offer a nature learning and ideas booklet (complete with student worksheets!), field trip transportation grants, and an educator’s guide to exploring nature in Washington DC.
