We are excited and honored to receive a grant from the Chesapeake Bay Trust to expand our environmental leadership opportunities for middle school students!
Through this generous funding, Conservation Nation is building on a successful pilot we developed and ran last spring at the Washington School for Girls, a tuition-free independent school in Ward 8. The students conducted a variety of environmental projects and explored the health of Oxon Run stream, which flows behind the school. Thanks to the new Chesapeake Bay Trust grant, we have expanded our club to include 20 girls in grades 6-8, and we will run the club once per week throughout the whole school year.Â
The girls in the club will not only investigate the health of Oxon Run, explore green careers, and meet conservation champions, but they will also help plan and lead events on environmental sustainability for the entire school community, reaching 125 girls and their families.
We’re so grateful for Chesapeake Bay Trust for their support and enthusiasm, and we’re so proud of our amazing, budding wildlife champions, who have been hard at work studying and caring for the Oxon Run watershed and working with our partners from The Green Scheme to learn about climate change and air quality.
