Conservation Nation is an initiative of Friends of the National Zoo, the registered 501(c)(3) non-profit partner of the Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute. Contributions to Conservation Nation are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.
Host 1: There’s a new non-profit organization in DC focused on wildlife conservation.
Nick Iannelli:The group used to be Friends of the National Zoo, the zoo’s non-profit partner. But when the pandemic caused the group’s revenue to plummet, it needed to do something else, so it rebranded itself and is now called Conservation Nation. CEO Lynn Mento:
Lynn Mento: We took a holistic view and said, “Is there something that’s missing in the conservation space or something that needs more amplification?”
Nick Iannelli: And she says the new group decided to focus solely on broadening the conservation community, in part by providing grants that’ll help women, people of color, indigenous people, and other underrepresented groups pursue careers in wildlife conservation.
