We are looking for educators to join the Conservation Nation Academy, gain free access to unique ready-to-teach lessons featuring wildlife conservationists from traditionally underrepresented groups, and provide us with feedback as we build a community of educators who are passionate about providing students with relatable and inspiring role models in conservation.
This spring, we will be introducing some fun, hands-on, and interactive lessons designed to introduce conservation careers and help students see themselves as conservation champions. Through these lessons, students will play a “would you rather” game to identify possible conservation careers matching their personalities, utilize their wildlife detective skills observing animal skulls, and practice mindfulness as they notice nature objects and learn to draw birds.
What’s more, our new lessons will feature a diverse array of conservation champions, including some of our newest grantees, and will include digital interviews conducted with the help of students from The Washington School for Girls. During these interviews, the girls ask fun questions such as “Can you show us how you do your work? What has been the wildest or most exciting day of your profession? Are you the first person in your family or community to do this work?” and more. We are creating fun, fast-paced bingo game lessons featuring the highlights of these interviews.
Our education team has been reaching out to DC area teachers through presentations this winter and spring, and we are building a mailing list to communicate with formal and non-formal educators interested in being part of our pilot.
You can sign up below to join our Conservation Nation Academy mailing list, receive information on how to access our unique lesson materials featuring a diverse array of conservation champions, and indicate your willingness to pilot lessons and give us feedback.
No matter where you are located or what age group you teach, you are welcome to join our mailing list to stay informed as we develop new activities. We look forward to sharing more resources throughout the year as we grow the number of educators in our Conservation Nation Academy!
