Looking Back and Gearing Up

Conservation Nation has made tremendous progress towards our mission since launching in September! We’re proud of so much this year, but in particular:

  • We’ve given out our first round of grants to an amazing group of role-model conservationists. Check them out here if you want a boost seeing how your support is making a difference in saving wildlife in need and empowering emerging conservationists from traditionally underrepresented groups.
  • We’re gearing up to launch our conservation education programs in 2022 with the goal of inspiring teens in underserved D.C. schools to see themselves as wildlife champions, all the way up to pursuing a STEM path and career in conservation. The team created a relationship with the Office of the State Superintendent of Education’s office, which set us up for a terrific pilot in several D.C. high schools.
  • And, of course, we pivoted to launch Conservation Nation – which was a huge undertaking and required the courage, grit and optimism to match our passion for the mission.
  • We’re incredibly grateful to all those who have supported and encouraged us—and so incredibly grateful for the invaluable advice, enthusiasm and resources from the Conservation Nation Board and Advisory Council.

As we look to 2022, we see such an opportunity for impact. We expect to offer another round of grants to help more wildlife conservationists. We’ll be starting our education pilot. We’re working on launching a Conservation Nation Fellows program. And we’re going to stand up our ‘convening’ pillar of work to connect and help like-minded organizations and people to create even greater change.

As we’re growing, feel free to share your thoughts! We’re determined to do our part in solving the global biodiversity crisis by bringing a larger, more diverse and inclusive community of conservationists to the cause. It’s a big undertaking and we can use all the help that we can get–ideas, support, funding, connections, it’s all useful.

Wishing you all a peaceful end to 2021 and a lovely start to 2022.
