Calling All Youth Who Are Passionate About Wildlife, the Environment, and Community Leadership!

Conservation Nation is a Washington, DC non-profit with a goal to preserve the planet by growing a more inclusive wildlife conservation movement. We are recruiting a national Youth Advisory Council of teen volunteers with diverse backgrounds who will:

  • Elevate the youth voice within Conservation Nation.
  • Advise us on programs that inspire and motivate youth to pursue conservation careers.
  • Act as ambassadors to increase Conservation Nation’s visibility among youth.

Are you interested in joining us?  GREAT!  Our ideal candidate:

  • Is in grades 9 – 12 for the 2022 – 2023 school year.
  • Lives and/or goes to school in the United States (global citizens are welcome!)
  • Has an interest and demonstrated leadership in wildlife conservation, the environment, climate change, STEM careers, education, youth engagement, and/or diversity, equity, access, and inclusion.
  • Wants to make a difference in the world!

The deadline to apply is Sunday, August 28, 2022 at 5:00 p.m. EST. 

Application Process:

Not all applicants for the Youth Advisory Council will be invited to serve.  You will hear from Conservation Nation by Friday, September 9, 2022 with a request to interview or with a decline.  If you are not accepted into this year’s Youth Advisory Council, we encourage you to apply again in the future.

What we expect from you:
  • Best efforts to attend each of our seven virtual meetings.
  • Active participation in meetings and on special projects.
  • Adherence to the Conservation Nation Youth Advisory Council code of conduct.
What you can expect from us:
  • An organization that will respect and recognize your time, efforts, and contributions.
  • A team dedicated to your growth and affirming of your identity and ideas.
  • Volunteer or service-learning hours for school, if needed.
  • Opportunities to hone your leadership skills through meetings, special projects, and networking with conservation professionals.
Time Commitment:
Youth Advisors are invited to serve for the 2021 –2022 school year and must agree to make best efforts to be at seven virtual council meetings.  Meeting dates and times:
  • Tuesday, October 11, 2022 | 7 – 8:30 p.m. EST
  • Tuesday, November 8, 2022 | 7 – 8:30 p.m. EST
  • Tuesday, December 13, 2022 | 7 – 8:30 p.m. EST
  • Tuesday, January 10, 2023 | 7 – 8:30 p.m. EST
  • Tuesday, February 14, 2023 | 7 – 8:30 p.m. EST
  • Tuesday, March 8, 2023 | 7 – 8:30 p.m. EST
  • Tuesday, May 9, 2023 | 7 – 8:30 p.m. EST
Financial Information
This is a volunteer position. Each Youth Advisor is eligible to receive a $250 gift card at the end of the council term in May 2023 if she/he/they attend least 5 out of 7 virtual meetings. Youth Advisors do not pay to be on the council. There is no employment, independent contractor, or labor relationship whatsoever between volunteer Youth Advisors and Conservation Nation.
How to Apply
  1. Required: Complete the online application below. You and your parent/guardian will also sign application agreements.
  2. Optional, but recommended: Gather materials highlighting your conservation work, extracurricular or volunteer activities, leadership skills, or personal interests.  A resume, letter of recommendation, awards, photos, written work, or links to videos, websites, or social media are acceptable. You will submit these during the online application process.
